Elder lost position for a poor Elvis impersonation singalong!!

afew years ago an elder at a witness gathering decided to dress sort of like elvis...i mean he had a white suit and big belt with sunglasses...called his wife pracilla etc.

big deal...he sang love me tender..etc.

all the witnesses clapped and cheered.

Thanks Lois. I have known a JW pioneer dress up and copy a TV character even going from door to door dressed the same he didn't get admonished most thought him eccentric actually he ended up working at Bethel . Dress code might be more strict now but it would make for very interesting door step conversations especially if the householder is inclined to dress up as well. How about the Witness dressed as the joker telling Batman that he needs to get to the Kingdumb Hall as soon as possible and a free book study is on offer.

King David was immoral . Paul AKA Saul was immoral. Judge Rutherford was immoral with his Beth Serim big mansion and dropping Adolf Hitler a friendly letter. Charles T Russell was immoral with his so called miracle wheat. Peter was immoral denying Jesus. Fred Franz was immoral telling us to stay alive till 75. Nathan Knorr was immoral for signing allegience to the United States on his passport while telling the rest of his followers not to stand for the flag or National Anthem .

Jehovah Witnesses are immoral impersonating true christians. The Governing Body are immoral impersonating God's direct line of communication. So whats the big deal with an Elvis Impersonator Elvis wasn't immoral singing Reach out to Jesus and Old Shep ( unless you don't believe in a place where good doggies go) Even Judge Rutherford might have liked Jail House Rock especially if the warden threw a party. He also might have liked a few lines of Are You lonesome tonight do you miss me tonight are you sorry we drited apart while sitting in his cell waiting for a fullfillment of prophecy idea to develop in his brain.

really the whole thing is ludicrious but it is hilarious and sad at the same time to see grown people arguing about weather there will be cars, planes, eat meat, what about fish, etc in a place as imaginary as oz, yet to them it is reality.. the teaching of a paradise earth was so illogical it really was the first thing that started me on the path to waking up.

just the thought that someone could greet their beloved spouse who had died only to come to the realization that they could never be together again struck me as so cruel, i didnt want to live there even if it was all true.. i have heard jws say they think we might be able to fly, read minds since we will be able to use 100% and some seem to think life would be an endless vacation, with modern conveniences with no thought to all the processes and work that goes into something simple like a pencil.

i love the article jwfacts has on the flaws of any theory or teaching of paradise earth.. what are some things you have heard discussed/argued in car groups, gatherings etc when you were in?.

I remember Nathan Knorr giving a talk at a convention at Twickenham I think it was the last talk and the stadium was packed he said " next time we meet like this we could be in the New World. " I thought well it had better be less boring and rasping than the talk you and Freddie Franz just gave or I shall be staying at a chalet in my new mountain retreat stroking my tiger and rolling about with my polar bear not to mention stroking my very fit looking wife's hair which flowed all the way down her back, as depicted in the Wacktower, while she caressed my newly perfected A class chest and admiring my muscle tone.

When I was 18 or so years of age I hardly read the inside pages of the newsaper and very rarely paid any attention to the TV news unless Russian Missiles were Cuba bound or Kennedy hit the headlines etc.

I seemed less concernend with politics and World events way back then, I was very interested in Elvis and Frank Sinatra perhaps it used to be a case of ignorence is bliss.

Terry thanks for that you make some good points Merle Haggard sings a good song called Where did America go?

The problem is the same in the UK there is no substance anymore it's all about hidden agenda it's all got too complex. I think it was Churchill who said after WW2 that it wasn't as easy to see the solutions and the way forward . Maybe it's the fault of the media not clearing the fog. I think it's the Government giving us too much spin and telling us too many times what is good for us.

Bethel Speaker- get rid of Facebook!

special assembly day (sad) bethel speaker ( a very good speaker i might add) in his talk " follow your spirit-directed conscience gave example of and elder and his family.

he noticed his wife and daughter spending a lot of time morning noon and night on facebook, it almost seemed like that is all they did, so as a spiritual head decided to see what they were constantly looking at, "let me see what you are spending so much time looking at on facebook said the elder".

the wife explained this is how we keep in contact with the "friends", elder started to look at her page and she was correct, there he found friends in the cong.

Yes I remember a sister of mature years was advised to have her dog put down and the Brother elder from the platform made a virtue of the fact that it was advisable in order for her to free up her time for door knocking. She had the dog destroyed so I suppose that saved Jehovah a job as well.

It didn't accomplish much the sister was upset the dog wasn't too pleased either and it didn't amount to a hill of beans because it was over forty years ago.

Don't listen to the Society if you need good advice thats the best advise ---------------------cruel bar stewards.
